Review: WATCHU GPS Smart Watch For Kids

As a parent we all want what’s best for our children. At just six years old, our twin girls have been asking my husband and I at what age can they get a mobile phone.

I usually just say when they’re in high school. I think I was around 12 years old when I got my first mobile phone. It didn’t do much other than make phone calls and send text messages, but mobile phones nowadays can do so much. It’s actually pretty scary.

I worry about my children having access to social media and various websites which are all too easy to access at the touch of a button.

On the other hand I don’t want to deny my children the inevitable, after all they are growing up in a world of technology. So, how do we strike a balance?

Well, one such company may have just done that!

WATCHU are a brand new start up company in Wales. To them safety for children is a vital concern, and that’s why they’ve created the WATCHU GPS Smart Watch. WATCHU set out to develop the Smart Watch for kids with safety at the forefront of their design. They want their products to give parents/grandparents peace of mind and reassurance that their child is safe.

The WATCHU GPS Smart Watch gives parents the ability to monitor and/or react to potential safety concerns in a device children will love to use. The WATCHU GPS Smart Watch provides accurate minute-by-minute location tracking, plus parents can also monitor where their child has been.

You can also set up Geo-Zones. These are virtual safe spaces that notify you if your child’s location changes. For example, if you don’t want your child to go farther than a specific distance from your phone, you can set this up via the WATCHU app. If your child leaves the Geo-Zone area, you’ll be notified.

Of course, the WATCHU GPS Smart Watch isn’t all about locating your child. Children can use it to tell the time. There are two handy display options, a digital clock or an analogue clock. The WATCHU GPS Smart Watch also counts your child’s steps so you can encourage them to exercise and they can compete with their family and friends to see who gets the most steps each day!

Children can also use the WATCHU GPS Smart Watch to make phone calls. Parents can add up to 16 phone contacts via the app, and then your child can call these contacts straight from their watch. As each contact has to be added via the app, parents can rest assured that their child can only call the people you allow them to.

The WATCHU GPS Smart Watch can also receive phone calls, so if your child is staying over a friend or family members house, you can call them to see how they’re doing.

One of my favourite features is the emergency call to action button. In the event of an emergency, your child can hold down the SOS button, and the WATCHU GPS Smart Watch will start calling pre-set contacts and update the GPS location.

There are also a number of other features available such as voice message and route playback so you can see where your child has been.

The WATCHU GPS Smart Watch is available to buy online here for £49.99. It’s available in either blue, pink or green.

There are two options available for the WATCHU GPS Smart Watch. There’s either a monthly payment of £10.99 for unlimited calls and tracking or you can simply use it as a pay as you go device meaning you would only top up when the credit runs out.

Calls to EU fixed lines and mobiles cost 30p per minute. Texts to all destinations cost 15p. Data per MB is 20p, and calls to all international destinations outside the EU cost 51p per minute..

The app is a very good tool to have. It’s easy to use and navigate, but I do think it’d be good if you could view the balance on the app and top up via the app too. At present you need to log into the website to find this information out. Aside from that, the app is very good!

The WATCHU GPS Smart Watch is very attractive to look at. It sits comfortably on our children’s wrists and they’ve got the hang of them very quickly. They really are very easy to use, and I would definitely recommend them!

For the purpose of this review we were sent two WATCHU GPS Smart Watches. All views and opinions are 100% my own.
